William IV Mahogany Bracket Clock, Coxhead, Reading

WILLIAM  IV  BRACKET  CLOCK

 

Fine mahogany drum head bracket clock standing on a raised moulded plinth and resting on pad feet.  Inset central flame mahogany panel with carved roundels below a re-painted dial signed W.Coxhead, Market Place, Reading with ‘blued’ steel hands and Roman numerals.

Glazed ‘keyhole’ rear door opening to a substantial eight day double fusee movement with shouldered plates striking the hours on a centrally mounted silvered bell.

This fine English bracket clock still retains it’s original bracket.  C.1830

Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world by Brian Loomes lists William Coxhead as working at Market Place, Reading from 1830 to 1877. His sister Ann Coxhead is listed as a wheelwright in Swan Street.
