Walnut Art Deco Mantel Clock

 

Art Deco style mantel clock housed in a rectangular walnut case with ebony mouldings, resting on a decorated moulded base with block feet.

Chrome bezel with bevelled glass opening to the silvered dial with raised chapter ring, Roman numerals and original ‘blued’ steel hands signed ‘Elliott London and for the retailer Mallory, Bath’

Eight day quarter Westminster chiming movement with anchor escapement, chiming and striking on gong rods.  C.1940

In 1923 Frank Elliott founded the famous company of F.W.Elliott in Croydon.  He was joined by his three sons 1n 1929.  In 1944 one of his son’s Horace took over the business and was appointed chairman of the British Horological Institute in the same year.  In 1966 his grandson Peter who was an engineer at Vickers Instruments Ltd took over the business.

Elliott was a highly respected clockmaking company who continued until 1973
