Victorian Striking Carriage Clock, Hampton & Sons, Pall Mall

 

Victorian carriage clock in a fine variegated green onyx case standing on a raised, stepped base and resting on gilded feet with reeded pillars and Corinthian capitals supporting a stepped architectural top with beaded decoration.

Enamel dial with Arabic numerals, original ‘blued’ steel hands signed ‘Hampton & Sons, Pall Mall’.

Eight day French movement with lever escapement striking the hours and halves on a coiled gong.  C.1890

‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’ by Brian Loomes lists Hampton & Sons as working in Pall Mall, London in the late nineteenth century.
