Victorian Fitzroy Barometer by Ashton & Mander, London

Stunning Victorian Fitzroy Barometer. Classic design with thermometer, storm-glass, mercury tube with portable bulb cistern.

This fine example is very rare in having an eight day clock in the pediment, the clock with Roman numerals is inscribed ‘’Ashton & Mandor’, 61, Old Compton Street, London’. C.1895.

‘’Barometer makers and retailers 1660-1900’’ by E. Banfield lists Ashton & Mander as mathematical, optical and philosophical instrument makers working from 1871-1900.

An identical example is featured in Edwin Banfield’s book ‘’Barometers, stick or cistern tube’ pg.230.
