Regency Walnut Library Bracket Clock by Barrauds, London

Finely figured walnut 5 glass case with bevelled glass throughout, moulded plinth with stepped base resting on four brass bun feet.  Dentil moulding decoration and canted brass corners.

Front opening door revealing the silvered dial with Roman numerals and original finely pierced ‘blued’ steel hands, signed Barrauds, London.

Substantial fine quality chain fusee movement with anchor escapement, striking the hours and a large centrally mounted silvered bell.  Regulating pendulum and pendulum holdfast.

Beautifully border engraved backplate signed Barrauds, Cornhill, London. C.1810

Paul Phillip Barraud was a fine clock and chronometer maker, he worked from Cornhill, London. Master of the clockmaking company in 1810 and a partner with W.Howells and George Jamison in 1797-1799 for making Thomas Mudge’s timekeepers. He died in 1820.

His sond Frederick Joseph ( free 1806) and James ( free 1815) carried on the family business and their clocks were signed Barraud & Sons after 1813.
