Victorian Field Microscope

Victorian brass monocular field microscope with original mahogany travelling case, signed ‘’M.Pillischer, London’’. C.1870

 

‘Moritz Pillischer’ is listed in Edwin Banfield’s informative book ‘‘Barometer makers and rertailers’ as an optical, mathematical and philosophical instrument maker working in New Bond St. From 1844-1888 (before this he worked from no. 398 Oxford Street). He exhibited at the Great Exhibition at the Crystal Palace in 1851 and won a medal. He also won the gold medal at the Paris exhibition in 1889.
