French Charles X Ormolu Mantel Clock
Rounded arched pillared case with fine ormolu floral mounts, chased decoration to the pillars standing on a raised plinth with applied mounts and resting on chased, compressed bun feet. Rectangular raised plinth supporting Cupid with patinated bow and sheath of arrows below the cast, chased ormolu bezel surrounding the three and a half inch enamel dial with original blued steel hands, blue Roman numerals signed ’Mongin, a Paris’.
Eight day movement with silk suspension and outside countwheel striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell. C.1830
’Dictionnaire Des Horlogers Francai’s by Tardy lists Mongin as working originally from the Rue Galande c.1820 then later from Rue Du Petit-Pont until c.1860
