Fine Engraved Carriage Clock by Bolviller
French gilded brass carriage clock in a finely engraved case with bevelled glass.
The rear of the case with conforming engraving to the rear door incorporating shutters for the winding and hand setting squares
Enamel dial with Roman numerals and original ‘blued’ steel hands, signed ‘Bolviller a Paris’.
Eight day movement of fine quality with outside countwheel striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell the backplate also signed ‘Bolviller a Paris’ and numbered 364. Beautifully engraved lever platform escapement. C.1840
Bolviller is recorded in Allix, Charles and Bonnert, Peter carriage clocks, their history and development as working from several addresses in Paris from 1830 -1870. Bolviller are known for being relatively early and inventive makers of fine French carriage clocks.
