Victorian Drop Dial Clock.

Rare octagonal rosewood case with oval aperture for the brass pendulum bob. Eight day Fusee movement by Samuel Valiant of Dickleburgh ( a very small village in south Norfolk pronounced ‘Dickleboro’). Painted dial with Roman numerals, original blued steel hands and lavish signature. C.1840.

Samuel Valiant is listed in ‘Norfolk and Norwich clocks and clockmakers’ by Clifford and Yvonne Bird as working in Dickleburgh from 1805 to 1890.
