Regency Bracket Clock Aquila Barber, Bristol
Rosewood gadroon top bracket clock standing on a raised brass inlaid base and resting on brass ball feet with brass bound quadrants. Fishscale brass fretwork and ornate ring carrying handles, surmounted by a brass bound urn finial. The case also bound with fine brass inlaid ribbed decoration.
Silvered dial with Roman numerals, original blued steel hands signed Aquila Barber, Bristol.
Eight day double Fusee movement with anchor escapement and border engraved decoration to the shouldered backplate, pendulum bob and brackets with pendulum holdfast. C.1815
‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’ by Brian Loomes lists Aquila Barber as working in Bristol from 1781 to 1846. He died in Newport in 1849.
