Georgian Bow Front Stick Barometer by Stott, Dumfries

Fine Georgian mahogany bow fronted stick barometer. Bow fronted glass set in front of the silvered register plate with sliding vernier controlled by a turned knob.

Concertina boxwood portable cistern with beautiful urn cistern cover decorated with bevelled edges and  inlaid with ebony. The register plate signed ‘Stott, Dumfries’. C.1795.

This important Barometer is featured on pages 59-61 of Nicholas Goodison’s informative book ‘English Barometers, A History of Domestic Barometers and their makers’.

This Barometer was previously owned by Mrs Owen Hugh Smith, her husband was related to the Queen Mother, it previously hung at Ardtornish, a 35,000 acre estate in Argyllshire.
