Enclosed portable mercury tube with Ivory register plate with weather indications, calibrated scale and sliding Ivory vernier. The register plate signed ’J.King, Optician, Bristol’. C.1820
’English barometers’ by Nicholas Goodson lists J.King as working as a mathematical instrument maker and an optician from Clare Street in Bristol from 1820. Later from approximately 1830 in partnership with a son becoming known as J.King and Son.
