French Ormolu and Marble ‘Chariot’ Clock

Fine French Ormolu table clock mounted on a green marble base standing on outswept gilded feet with finely chased rectangular panel featuring three heavenly cherubs.

The base is mounted with a spectacular Roman chariot and driver pulled by two horses, the driver has his shield at his feet and is encouraging his team.

The dial encompasses the spokes of the wheel and has a raised enamel chapter ring with Roman numerals.

Eight day movement striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell signed ‘Vincenti’. C.1870

Jean Vincenti started his clockmaking workshop just prior to 1823 in Montbeliard, France. Vincenti died in 1834, the business continued to thrive winning numerous awards including the ‘Medaille D’Argent ( silver medal) in Paris in 1855.

The company were known for fine quality movements. Vincenti was also especially noted for his highly decorative mantel clocks including those with inlaid Boullework.
