Edwardian Mahogany Inlaid Mantel Clock

 

Edwardian mantel clock housed in a break arch mahogany case with walnut panels and satinwood line stringing , brass pillars to either side with a stepped plinth resting on four brass bun feet.

Brass bezel with convex glass opening to the enamel dial with Arabic numerals and original ‘blued’ steel hands.

Eight day French movement with anchor escapement striking the hours and halves on a coiled gong. The backplate marked W.B.K.& Fils, Paris and stamped for Samuel Marti, numbered 2862.  C.1900

‘Samuel Marti & Cie’ were well known French clockmakers working from their premises at Le Pays De Montbeliard Paris from just before 1860. They were awarded the medaille de bronze in 1867 at the Great Paris Exhibition and the Medaile D’or in 1900.
