Rosewood cased Campaign Clock
Rosewood cased Campaign clock with satinwood line stringing, standing on a raised moulded plinth with marquetry inlay. Diamond shaped side viewing windows, ornate carrying handle above the central viewing aperture. Enamel dial with Roman numerals and original blued steel hands, signed ‘Raingo Freres, Paris’.
Eight day movement of fine quality with silk suspension marked Raingo Freres, Paris and numbered 2021 with outside countwheel strike on a silvered bell. The inside of the back door carries an old trade label for ‘Camerer, Kuss & Co, Shepherds Bush. W’. c.1825
Raingo Freres worked from Rue Vielle Du Temple c.1829, also from Rue De Saintonge between 1840 to 1850. The company made movements of finequality and continued trading in Paris until the early 1900’s. They exhibited in London in 1862. In 1829 they filed a patent for a special type of escapement.
