Fine French Tortoiseshell Boulle Clock

Waisted case veneered with brown tortoiseshell and inlaid with brass and with applied ormolu mounts featuring masks, scrolls, maidens and trailing flowers.  The case standing on scrolled feet and resting on the matching ogee shaped bracket with masked corner mounts.
Five and three quarter inch dial, chased and gilt with segmented blue enamel Roman numerals, eight day, fine quality movement with outside countwheel strike on a silvered bell and starburst pendulum signed ‘Vincenti et Cie’.  C.1840

‘Vincenti et Cie’, clockmakers won silver medals for examples of their work at the Paris exhibition in 1834 and again in 1855. He was especially noted for his highly decorative mantel clocks including those with inlaid Boullework such as this one. This type of Boulle work was enjoying a revival in France in the mid nineteenth century.
